Hair loss can be of great concern to both men and
women at some time in their lives. This concern mainly
centers on fears of looking prematurely old, unattractive
to the opposite sex, lack of self-esteem and, without any
real justification, of being thought of as lacking virility
and of even being regarded as impotent.
Here, we shall briefly outline three types of hair loss
conditions of the Alopecia category. Then we shall
outline five methods that are commonly used to address
these conditions.
Alopecia Areata has clearly apparent bald patches, often
round or oval in shape. Alopecia Areata can appear on
the head, beard, and other hairy parts of the body. Even
if the spots disappear within a year of treatment, it’s
common for alopecia areata to reoccur again. Alopecia
Totalis means total baldness, all the hair on the scalp has
disappeared. Alopecia Universalis is the condition where
there is a complete loss of hair from all sections of the
body. It sometimes occurs as an extension of generalized
Alopecia Areata. The whole head and body of an
individual becomes bald. Hair disappears from all
regions, i.e., pubic, armpits, eyelashes, eyebrows, chest,
legs, beard, and other areas.
Here are five methods to treat hair loss, and these
exclude hair transplanting which is outside the scope of
this article.
1 Laser or low level light therapy has been shown to be
beneficial to hair in several studies. Both clinical
treatment and hand held laser therapy are available.
Also, larger laser models can be bought for use in salons
and hair replacement studios.
2 Di-hydro testosterone (DHT) is the major cause of hair
loss for both men and women. DHT inhibitor products
can either interfere with the conversion of testosterone to
DHT or help to block DHT from binding to the hair
follicle.
3 In relation to this, hair vitamin products help to aid in
growth of hair; either by inhibiting DHT and/or
providing the vitamins and minerals that optimizes good
quality hair growth.
4 There are only two FDA-approved treatments for hair
loss and one of these, Minoxidil, is the only antibaldness
drug approved for women. Originally
introduced as a medicine to treat high blood pressure, it
was noticed that users began to grow extra hair.
5 Hair and scalp cleansing products can be optimized to
give hair and the scalp the nutrients that are needed
without adding harmful chemicals like sodium laureth
sulfate, cocamide diethanolamine, or alcohols that are
present in most shampoos. These harmful chemicals
cause these shampoo to strip hair of the essential oils that
hair needs. Proper hair and scalp hygiene and nutrition is
the first step to healthier, thicker and fuller hair.
In conclusion, early steps can be taken to address hair
loss, however it is strongly recommended that plenty of
research is done first to ascertain the real cause of the
condition, that may be unique to and thus different from
individual to individual, before deciding what action to
take.

Those that have a hard time gaining muscle most of the
time think that it has something to do with their workout
routine or their supplementation. After they’ve been
lifting weights for a while without seeing any muscle
building results, they immediately think that they must
be on the wrong bodybuilding program.

They start to add in all kinds of techniques that they read
in some bodybuilding magazine or website. They start to
add in supersets, forced reps, negatives, giant sets,
heavier weights, static contractions, stretch overload, so
on and so forth. Or they’ll begin to add more exercises,
sets, frequency, etc.
Or, they’ll run to the nearest supplement store or internet
site and begin to pour their hard-earned money on
testosterone boosters, prohormones, weight gainers,
protein bars / shakes, pre-workout / post-workout drinks,
creatine, NO2, glutamine, branch chain amino acids,
etc., etc.
Yet, after all of that extra effort, time, and money spent,
they still are getting the same muscle gaining
results……….nothing!
Wanna know why?
Because they fail to look at the number one factor on
how to gain muscle ………eating more calories. That is
99% of the time the problem, not their training or
supplementation.
And I love it when I hear someone complain that “no
matter what they do they can’t gain any muscle mass”.
But when asked how many calories or food their eating,
it is always, and I mean always, not enough, even though
they swear up and down that they do.
Sure, they think their eating a lot of food, and they may
be doing so a day here and a day there. But when you
look at how they eat over the course of several months,
you’ll see that they are eating like a bird, and that’s why
they look like one.
Trust me, I know what it feels like. A lack of an appetite
is what kept me from gaining muscle mass naturally for
years on end.
Well, here are a few tips and tricks to increase your
natural appetite so that you can actually start to eat
enough to grow, even though you may be fooling
yourself into thinking you already are (but hey,
regardless of what your stomach may be telling you, if
you haven’t gained any significant amount of muscle in a
while, it’s time to look in the mirror).
First, avoid eating foods that are very acidic, like carrots,
orange juice, tomatoes, lemons, limes, and other citrus
fruits……since a high level of acid tells the brain to slow
digestion down, which will result in a lot of food just
sitting in your stomach, killing your appetite.
Second, don’t eat too much protein, since this releases
certain hormones that also tell your brain to slow
digestion down.
Third, don’t eat a lot of foods that contain a lot of
sodium, like frozen foods and canned soup. Again,
sodium also tells the body to slow digestion down, and,
again, taking away your appetite.
And, avoid a lot of fiber, since fiber stretches the
intestines, bloats you, and fools the brain into thinking
you’re “full”.

There are several muscle building exercises that will
help you to develop a great physique. They can be
divided into two categories, strength training and fat
burning training. They can be done with or without
weights. You will need to develop some goals and an
exercise routine to achieve them.
Muscle building exercises: With all your training there
are 3 important things to understand.
1. Firstly you always need to be challenging. Once you
find that you can do the set of exercises easily, then put
on 5 to 10 pounds more and repeat as many of the set
that you can. In this way you will be continuously
strengthening your muscles. You will develop more
growth and burn off more fat by doing this.
2. Remember to stay focused when doing your Muscle
building exercises: to do any job right you need to focus
on what you are doing in order to do it correctly. Do not
get distracted by anything, especially the TV. Try to do
your workouts alone or with your trainer to be sure that
you are focused on each set of exercises. This will
ensure that you can do them better.
3. Make sure that you allow your body the recovery time
it needs when you do your Muscle building exercises:
Recovery time is necessary when you are developing
tissue. The best way to do this is to plan your training so
that you will do about 20-30 minutes workout 3 times a
week. This means that you will have a day of rest inbetween
your workouts.
There are 2 types of machines that can be used:
1. Muscle building exercises using weights: These
include popular equipment such as the Bowflex. These
machines use resistance weights to strengthen, burn fat
and put on growth. The Bowfex is especially easy to use
as it uses resistance rods instead of weights. It also has a
new type where you can just dial whatever weight you
need to use.
2. Muscle building exercises not using weights: These
are machines like tread mills, elliptical equipment and
exercise bikes. These types of machines will build
growth more slowly by endurance and strength. You can
use these machines at home or in a gym.

So you think you’re a little on the short side (sorry for the
pun) and you’re thinking of doing something about it,
that is why you’re surfing the internet to see if there’s a
natural solution to what you think is a big problem for
you. Of course, you’re like most people who want to add
a couple or more inches to their height, you’re thinking
of getting into yoga to grow tall. You may have heard
somewhere that yoga helps you grow taller and you’re
doing some research to make sure before you take the
plunge and get started on the hard work of learning and
regularly practicing yoga.
What makes someone taller than someone else is mostly
to do with the length of someone’s bones, not so much
the arms. And when it comes to yoga and growing tall,
doing yoga does not make bones grow. Your bones
cannot be stretched by practicing yoga no matter how
hard you try and the only way to do that is through
painful surgical procedures which is something not
recommended even to your worst enemy.
Even though practicing yoga to grow tall seems to be a
possibility, this is normally not because you have added
a couple of inches of bone but through practicing certain
yoga positions that help stretch and elongate your spine,
this in turn creates space and if you develop the spinal
muscles, your spine would eventually have the capacity
to hold the space and because your body is now properly
aligned making you hold yourself up properly, you will
most likely appear taller.
Unlike most sports and exercises, yoga positions
encourages your body to stretch and lengthen. So doing
yoga to grow tall is not going to happen if you’re
expecting to be much taller than you already are (unless
you’re a teenager and you’re still growing then the
growth is just natural, not something to do with doing
yoga). But yoga will make you more aware of your body
as a whole, how to carry yourself, how you stand and sit
naturally and this factor alone will increase your
awareness of your own posture and if you haven’t been
walking and standing straight, after doing yoga you will.
And the fact that you’re walking and standing straighter
will make you appear taller to yourself and those around
you. Be happy with that as sometimes it’s easier to create
the illusion – I mean what is make-up for if not to create
an illusion – and be healthy at the same time than opt for
growth enhancers in the form of pills and other drastic
surgical solutions.
After a few yoga lessons, you’ll find your posture will
have improved and the straightening of your torso area
feels like you’ve gained a couple of centimetres. People
have reported to have gained up to 3 inches of height
doing yoga to grow tall. This is usually based on the
theory that if you practice yoga positions that focus on
stretching you’ll soon see a development and toning of
your back muscles first before the straightening and
lengthening of the spine and finally, there will a gradual
strengthening, thickening and decompression of the
spine. All of which is supposed to make you appear
taller.
So if you feel you haven’t got the best posture that you
can possibly have and you feel you can improve in this
area – then the possibility of the end result of you doing
yoga to grow tall is you appearing a couple of
centimeters taller – why not try it? It’s definitely not only
going to be good for you in terms of your general fitness
but also your mental and emotional well-being. But if
you’re already a health junkie, doing pilates and other
forms of stretching on a regular basis, therefore your
posture would most likely to be at its best, practicing
yoga to grow taller may not create much of a difference
for you.
For those who are natural slouchers, if you’re excited by
the possibility of extra inches, remember you really have
to practice yoga regularly on a daily basis if possible to
really see a difference. Some basic sit up yoga positions
that may help are the Sukahasana (developes the lower
back) and the dog and cat which works on the spine.
Have fun and above all look after your body, you only
have one. Stay safe!

Surely, you are familiar with a quote that says: “An
apple a day keeps the doctor away”. I don’t who created
such line. Why an apple? Is it just because it sounds
better than strawberry, mango or orange? I guess so,
because knowing what a single banana could do to our
body, you agree if I say: “A banana a day, keeps the
doctor away! After reading this article, you won’t be
looking at banana in the same way again.A certain post
authored by Lula Vecchi, from the internet has given me
enough interest about bananas. Personally, I hate
bananas. However, after reading this, I had banana
during my lunch right away. She said:Bananas which
contain three natural sugars (sucrose, fructose and
glucose) and fiber give an instant, sustained, and
substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that
just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous,
90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number
one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. But energy
isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can
also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of
illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our
daily diet.
Reducing Depression: According to a recent survey
undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from
depression, many felt much better after eating a banana.
This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of
protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to
make you relax, improve your mood and generally make
you feel happier. PMS: Forget the pills — eat a banana.
The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose
levels, which can affect your mood. Anemia: High in
iron, bananas can stimulate the production of
hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely
high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect to
beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug
Administration has just allowed the banana industry to
make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the…

The greatest problem when it comes to diet and weight
loss programs is for many people weight loss is not
permanent. It could be a matter of days, weeks or
months; the simply fact is that most people during this
time put back most or all of their lost weight. This can
cause anxiety, anger and frustration at the time and effort
put towards following a weight loss program that has not
delivered the desired results.
So whose responsibility is this far this lack of permanent
weight loss; is it the person doing the diet or the diet plan
that is being followed itself?
To answer this question fully; involves firstly looking at
the psychology of many dieters, as well as the choice of
diets available out there.
Most people think weight loss programs have to be
complicated to fit in with age, sex and body type. As I
am about to reveal many weight loss programs on the
face of it look complicated, however this unnecessary
complication is mainly to differentiate it from the
competition. It can be very confusing to know which diet
plan to follow with so much choice out in the
marketplace.
Many weight loss programs out there make themselves
different from the competition, by using different daily
calorie ratios for the 3 main nutrients found in food. The
three main nutrients are proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
So for example, what you can have is high, medium, low
and zero daily calories of proteins, fats and
carbohydrates. There is so many different combinations
you can with these 3 main nutrients use to make a weight
loss plan. There is little wonder that there is so much
competition out there with a vast number of different
weight loss plans.
So why do so many diets fail people and why isn’t there
one diet out there that has proven to consistently achieve
permanent weight loss.
The real answer is to turn the first question around;
instead it should read why do so many people fail in
their dieting. This leads to answering the second
question; there isn’t a diet that guarantees permanent
weight loss, because it depends very much on the
individual who is carrying out the diet.
So instead of recommending which diet you should
follow, you need to understand why people fail diets in
the long term, this can lead to stopping the cycle of
putting weight back on when lost, thus achieving
permanent weight loss.
Generally almost all diets work by using the different
combinations of fats, proteins and carbohydrates for your
daily calorie intake. In the short term by burning up
more calories than you intake you will lose weight.
Recent studies back this up; when the popular
commercial diets were compared against other over a 6-
12 month period, they mostly showed similar weight loss
results. One major study concluded that the person
adhering to the diet, rather than the diet itself was the
main indicator of whether the weight loss program
would work or not.
So what this shows clearly that, the most likely way to
succeed in achieving permanent weight loss depends on
how well you adhere to a weight loss plan in the long
term. So how can this be achieved?
A solution to achieving permanent weight loss lies in
looking at making lifestyle changes; developing new
positive habits that involve following weight loss
programs in the long term. The simply fact changes like
this simply do not happen overnight and take weeks,
sometimes months to become an integrated part of a
persons life.
The sad fact is most people there are looking for a magic
wand to end their weight loss problems. Many turn to
drugs and surgery for an immediate result. Unfortunately
drug use and surgery can have side effects or unknown
long term consequences.
So the safer and more effective way to permanent weight
loss is to reduce your calories and do your diet program
for the long term. By developing these habits over
weeks, months and years you ensure that weight loss will
become permanent for you.

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a fatty wax lipid that can be found in the cell membranes of
humans and animals.
Cholesterol is a tricky little devil, because if it gets out of hand you could
have a serious health risk, including heart attack and other potentially fatal
conditions. That is why it is so important to have a low cholesterol diet,
because it reduces your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. High
cholesterol is something you need to avoid. It can cause many conditions
including heart disease.
By having a low cholesterol diet, you are less likely to contact heart
disease than someone who eats a high cholesterol diet.Well, whether or
not you have high cholesterol, eating too many high cholesterol foods will
give you high cholesterol. So, manage your diet and eat right, and
remember that a low cholesterol diet is important for your health.
Causes, Symptoms of High Cholesterol
Nobody wants High cholesterol. When you hear the dreaded words from
your doctor saying you have high cholesterol, you are probably thinking
something along the lines of – “Now. I will never be able to eat my favorite
food again!” But do not worry, there are many low cholesterol diets that
can be good for you and taste well all at the same time. First let’s look at
the causes of high cholesterol. In most cases, weight plays a large role in
high cholesterol because of the food you eat and the amount of food you
eat.
Sometimes it can be as simple as losing a few pounds to lower your
cholesterol levels, but other times you simply can do nothing. You lose
weight but your cholesterol levels are still the same. This can be an
example of hereditary cholesterol, which means your high cholesterol
levels could be the result of one of your family members having high
cholesterol. A low cholesterol diet will help to keep your cholesterol levels
down but it will be harder because it is something in your genes that
makes your cholesterol high. Also stress can raise your cholesterol so
practicing stress relief is a good idea, and exercise may be the perfect
option for you, exercise can both decrease your stress and your cholesterol
levels all at the same time.
Symptoms of high cholesterol can be, fatigue, depression and other
emotional conditions. A good suggestion when starting a low cholesterol
diet would be to avoid fatty, unhealthy foods, like french fries, and other
fast foods that are high in cholesterol. Junk food is never good, so when
you are trying to stay on a low cholesterol diet, try to avoid these types of
foods at all costs. Yes I know you love those kind of foods, but it is not the
end of great tasting foods for you yet. Today there are many substitutes
for junk foods that can be made right at home with ingredients that will
not raise your cholesterol levels.

It is good to go to your local book store and find a low cholesterol diet
cookbook, because a lot of the time you can find delicious recipes that are
much lower in cholesterol than other foods. For example if you get hungry
for french fries while on a low cholesterol diet, consider this – most low
cholesterol cookbooks will have a recipe for oven fries. These are a
delicious substitute for regular french fries and they taste great! Of course
if you cannot find this recipe feel free to go online and find low cholesterol
recipes for you and your family to enjoy.

Type 1 Diabetes
The symptoms of type 1 diabetes appear suddenly and may be rather
severe in nature. Usually detected during childhood, type 1 diabetes may
cause a serious condition called diabetic ketoacidosis, which causes
vomiting, nausea and dehydration. If left untreated, symptoms become
more intense and the condition may eventually lead to coma or even
death.
Type 2 Diabetes
The signs of type 2 diabetes are usually subtle, often going unnoticed for
many years before a blood test reveals the presence of the disease. The
symptoms of diabetes may also be wrongly attributed to obesity or aging,
and if not properly treated, may lead to other serious complications
including heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, or permanent nerve
damage.
The common symptoms of diabetes that occur with both major types of
the disease include:
- Excessive urination: Excessive urination, or polyuria, occurs when the
body attempts to rid the system of extra glucose through the urine. This
condition may then lead to dehydration after losing large amounts of
water when excreting the excess sugars.
- Excessive thirst: Excessive thirst, or polydipsia, occurs when the brain
receives a signal to dilute the blood in order to deal with the extra glucose.
This signal is translated as thirst by the body, which needs to consume
more water to counteract the loss by the excessive urination.
- Unexplained weight loss: People with diabetes may experience weight
loss even though they are taking in a normal, healthy amount of food, or
even an excessive amount, as the disease affects the way the body
processes calories. Dehydration and excessive urination are other
symptoms that may also contribute to unexplained weight loss.
- Excessive eating: One of the functions of insulin, which is secreted to
counter high levels of blood sugar, is to stimulate the appetite. Too much
insulin may cause increased hunger and lead to overeating, a condition
known as polyphagia.
- Fatigue: Diabetes causes the body to have difficulty processing and using
glucose as a means of fuel. To compensate, the body must then work
harder to metabolize fat as an alternate source of fuel, which may cause
fatigue and a constant feeling of tiredness.
- Slow-healing wounds: Both oxygen and white blood cells are necessary
for healing and regenerating new tissue, but when the level of sugar is too
high, those cells aren’t able to function normally, causing the body to be
susceptible to infections and taking longer than usual to heal. Those who
have had diabetes for many years may also have poor circulation, which
also causes wounds to need more healing time due to a thickening of the
blood vessels.
- Frequent infections: Urinary tract infections and both skin and yeast
infections are symptoms of diabetes that may be the result of a suppressed
immune system. Infections may also be from the extra glucose within the
body’s tissues, which allows bacteria to grow in excess.
- Blurry vision: While blurred vision isn’t technically a symptom that’s
specific for either type of diabetes, it does occur frequently when blood
sugar levels are abnormally high.
- Altered mental state: Symptoms of diabetes, such as confusion, agitation
or irritability, may be the result of either very low levels of blood sugar,
which is known as hypoglycemia, or from extremely high blood glucose
levels, or hyperglycemia.

Diabetes and sexual problems affect both men and women but in different
ways.
In men, diabetes and sexual problems often focus on erectile
dysfunction.Because your body responds to sexual stimuli through your
nerves and high blood glucose levels affect your nervous system, it is
understandable that even sexual response is affected by this potentially
life threatening condition.
It is estimated by the American Diabetes Institute that as many as 85
percent of men with diabetes experience erectile dysfunction. This can
cause problems in marriage but, more importantly, can cause severe
depression in those who are contending not only with the disease of
diabetes, but also what they deem the loss of their self esteem.
Erectile dysfunction can also be a symptom of diabetes. If a man continues
to experience this malady, he should discuss this problem with his
physician to make sure that he is not suffering from undiagnosed diabetes.
Fortunately, there are certain medications and other treatments available
to men who experience this common side effect to diabetes. The key to
eliminating the problem is for the patient to discuss this with his physician.
Diabetes and sexual problems does not stop at erectile dysfunction,
however. Retrograde ejaculation is a more potentially dangerous situation
that can happen to men with diabetes. In this condition, the semen can go
into the bladder instead of being dispelled out of the penis during
ejaculation.
A man who is experiencing this side effect of diabetes should seek
consultation with a urologist who can help with medication or surgery to
correct the problem.
Men are not the only ones affected with sexual problems as a side effect to
diabetes. Diabetes and sexual problems also affect women. Because of
damage to the nerve cells within the vagina by high levels of blood glucose,
dryness can occur that can make intercourse very painful.
Many women also report that the nerve damage caused by the
hyperglycemia also causes them to lose interest in sex and have no
sensations in their genital area. Needless to say, the lack of sexual desire
can cause psychological problems for both men and women and may lead
to marital difficulties as well.
Many people are embarrassed about speaking to their physician when it
comes to problems relating to sexual relations. People with diabetes
should be aware of the fact that their condition makes them prone to
these side effects and should discuss them with their doctor so they can
get treatment. There is a variety of treatment for those experiencing
diabetes and sexual problems.
If you experience any side effects related to your condition, discuss them
with your physician. By keeping informed of the disease and the side
effects as well as complications, you can empower yourself in managing
your illness and lead a happier as well as longer life.
One way to prevent such problems from occurring is to maintain your
blood glucose levels by eating a healthy diet, exercising and taking your
prescribed medication or insulin. Monitor your blood sugars as instructed
by your physician.
